I can see the printer over the network, and can even print to it. I did have it scanning across the network in the past, but, I've re-installed Linux since then and can't recall what I did to get it working. The "Simple Scan" program sees the printer but throws up a "Failed to Scan, Unable to connect to printer" error and XSane Image Scanner throws similar - "Failed to open device 'hpiao:/net/HP_Color_Laserjet_CM1312nfi_MFP?ip=192.168.1.17':Error during device I/O" - I installed the HPLIP drivers as a matter of course when I re-installed the OS. What have I missed? Hooking up a cable to the printer is problematic, given its size and location, which is why it is networked.

Try running the command hp-plugin a try.

You may need to do all of the following:

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt install hplip hplip-gui
$ hp-setup
$ hp-plugin
