<SOLVED> Epson WF-2530 cannot print anymore after upgrading to Mint 19

Post by pennydata »

Good evening,

as far as I've read there's a bit of trouble in making some printers work under Linux 19 Tara, even mine doesn't work anymore since I've installed the new O.S.
I've installed the proper drivers from the epson site, just the way I did on Mint 16 17 18.

The printer is installed and I can setup every features on system-config-printer.

Unfortunately documents can't be printed:

- If I launch the print by USB cable the Epson loads the paper and writes "UNIR" in capitals, then it stops suddenly.
- If I try by wifi the documents stand still and diagnotics say "Waiting for job to complete." and "job-printer-state-massage Filter Failed"

Re: Epson WF-2530 cannot print anymore after upgrading to Mint 19

Post by kyphi »

The printer driver for the Epson WF-2530 is the same as the one I am using for my Artisan 725 and it works fine in Mint 19 (fresh install). I noticed today that the current driver for both our models is epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.6.31-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb and I wonder if Epson have fixed the upgrade issue with this new driver.

If you open a guest session will the printer work?

If you have upgraded Linux Mint from an earlier version then it is possible that something has broken in the process. The only way that I know to test this is to boot into a live session, install the printer driver and see if the printer now works. You will lose the installed printer driver when you close the live session.

Thanks a lot kyphi, I specify that I've run the live and that way the printer worked properly.

I've upgrade the OS from Mint 18, and the fact suggests that the problem took origin from upgrading .... "something has broken into process". As soon as I can I will install Mint 19 from start and surely the issue would be solved, though I still don't know exactly what the cause was.
And maybe never I will :D
