SOLVED Canon E410 PIXMA scanner not found

Post by sadhu »

I recently installed a Canon E410 Pixma scanner/printer/copier. I ran the cups printer setup; now printing and photocopying work fine. But sane reports "scanner not found." Can find no .deb driver for this printer, though.

lsusb reports:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04a9:181e Canon, Inc.

I edited /lib/udev/rules.d/60-libsane.rules, adding the following lines:
# Canon PIXMA E410 Series 04a9:181e
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTRS{idProduct}=="181e", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

Then rebooted, and installed Xsane, which reports: "No devices available". It suggests:
  • 1) There is no device supported by sane
    2) Supported devices are busy
    3) Permissions don't allow you to do it, try as root.
    4) The backend is not loaded by SANE (man sane-dll) [ "No manual entry for sane-dll" ]
    5) The backend is not configured properly (man sand-"backendname")
    6) Possibly there is more than one SANE$ version installed
What do I have to do to get the scanner to work?

Thanks,
Sadhu

I know nothing of your Canon E410 Pixma, but I do know that Canon often offer separate Linux drivers for the printer and scanner parts of an MFP. Have you checked their support website?

What's an MFP?

Their website offers "linux" drivers as an .rpm archive.

Know any way to convert or install .rpm drivers in Linuxmint?

Thanks
