Thank you!
I am actually debating which printer to purchase. Is there also a driver for the J480 model?
I don't see a linux link on the page for that one.

In the end for various reasons I bought the J497 anyway.
Thanks to all for the helpful replies
One final question:
Can anyone post a link to an explanation of how to install a driver in Linux Mint?

Re: Brother J497 printer
Thanks so much for the instructions.
Haven't succeeded printing yet....
When I double clicked, nothing happened. Not even after rebooting and trying several times.
Then I went into "Printers" and it helped me select a driver. It was possible to print a test page. But when I send a document to the printer nothing happens.
Any further suggestions?

The printer must be connected to your wifi router first, so your PC can communicate with it. In the printer settings, on the LCD screen of the printer, press Menu and go to Network (?), then set the IP Address for your wifi router if it doesn't automatically appear.

Re: Brother J497 printer
I ran the script to install the printer without first connecting it. Maybe that's partially responsible for these errors?
I notice directory on the first line there is not the full directory name.
'/home/silver2/0-File' should be '/home/silver2/0-File History/...'
Can I somehow start over and not put the installation files in a directory name that has spaces?
