HP Laserjet P1505 will not print

Post by Spatflute »

I installed Linux Mint 19 (Cinnamon) a few weeks ago, and I've been unable to get my HP Laserjet P1505 to print.
I've installed the driver from hplip, including the hp-plugin. The printer appears under Administration -> Printers.
When I try to print a test page, after a few moments a "Printer Error" box appears, saying "There was a problem
processing document 'Test Page' (job ##)." When I run through the troubleshoot steps after clicking on "Diagnose",
it recommends to fetch journal entries using the following command:
su -c 'journalctl -u cups.service --since="None" --until="2018-11-20 19:17:09"' > troubleshoot-logs.txt
When I run the above command in a terminal, it responds "su: Authentication failure"

I tried to attach the output to the "hp-check" command, but it says "Invalid File Extension"

Many thanks for any advice.

if you now run that command in Terminal as:
sudo -c 'journalctl -u cups.service --since="None" --until="2018-11-20 19:17:09"' > troubleshoot-logs.txt
does that command now work - after you have typed in your own user password ?.

Thanks for the suggestion! When I try the command as you recommend, here is the output:
jeffy@LBlaster:~$ sudo -c 'journalctl -u cups.service --since="None" --until="2018-11-21 17:38:38"' > troubleshoot-logs.txt
usage: sudo -h | -K | -k | -V
usage: sudo -v [-AknS] [-g group] [-h host] [-p prompt] [-u user]
usage: sudo -l [-AknS] [-g group] [-h host] [-p prompt] [-U user] [-u user]
[command]
usage: sudo [-AbEHknPS] [-r role] [-t type] [-C num] [-g group] [-h host] [-p
prompt] [-T timeout] [-u user] [VAR=value] [-i|-s] [<command>]
usage: sudo -e [-AknS] [-r role] [-t type] [-C num] [-g group] [-h host] [-p
prompt] [-T timeout] [-u user] file ...

I apologize; I see now that I probably should have posted this in the "newbie" forum,
because Linux is pretty new to me.
