When I advised setting up an everywhere queue I did it because it was straightforward and the queue would be displayed in the dialogs of all applications. I never expected to meet the issues we have done. What I could have done was to have given the following alternative advice:
  • Edit /etc/cups/cups-browsed and uncomment the "CreateIPPPrinterQueues All" line.
  • Restart cups-browsed:

    Code: Select all

    systemctl restart cups-browsed
Whether it will work for you is a different matter. The queue setup is automatic and basically sets up an everywhere queue. And we know what happened when you tried this the non-automatic way :( .

cantfind has assisuously followed up on this bug report at

https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5512

These bug reports have led to upstream CUPS and cups-filters accomodating what is a possible bug in some Canon printers which affects driverless printing.

https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5484

Upstream cups-filters remarks:
Either there is a firmware bug in the Canon printers or the response gets perhaps somehow too long for the client-side implementation of IPP (libcups in case of both CUPS and cups-filters).
Whatever the cause of the issue, it should not be present in some future release of Mint.
