Epson V370 and Cinnamon 19.1

Post by PaulinQueanbeyan »

Hello
I have just installed a new Mint OS on my Laptop and bought a Epson V370 scanner. This is for a long term project of photo scanning.

I got that scanner because Epson said it was linux supported.

I have installed their software and SANE and cannot get it to work. The PC sees the scanner is connected but the driver just does not connect to it. I have tried VueScan but it also does not work.

There are people who they have it working with Mint 18 but their solutions do not work for me.

If I cannot get it to work I will return the laptop to Windows but would rather not

Regards

Paul

Is this the driver you installed?

iscan-perfection-v370-bundle-1.0.1.x64.deb

Are you connecting via USB cable or wireless?

Hello and thank you for your reply

Yes that is the driver and I'm connected to the scanner via USB. When I attempted to remove it I ended with a broken package and could not uninstall it. As I have just installed Mint 19 I reinstalled it. My new installation has connection to my old scanner and I have not attempted to reinstall the V370

Thank you again

I am getting confused about what you intended to do - perhaps due to using Windows terminology. Scanners are not installed nor uninstalled, only the driver is.

Is your "old" scanner an Epson scanner too? Which model?

Do you still need help with your V370?

The files in the scanner bundle can be installed individually. Download the scanner bundle, right click on the bundle and select "Extract here". There will be 3 folders, core, data and plugins. You only need the file in plugins if you want to use the scanner in wireless mode.
Install the file in the data folder first with a double click and follow that with the file in the core folder, install with a double click.

Yes let me start again.

I have a Lenovo E510 laptop with a clean Mint 19.1 Cinnamon installation
I have a Canon 720 MFP that works fine in both print and scan.
I have a Epson V370 scanner connected to Laptop via a USB cable.
I did a "connection scan" (with a command I saw on this forum) and the PC "sees" the two scanners attached and recognises them correctly.
On the last installation I installed the Epson Iscan package. I understood it was a interface and a driver.
This did not work for the V370 scanner on Simple Scan, Gimp or Iscan. I tried Vuescan and it did not work. Vuescan works with the Canon scanner
I connected Epson and they just said that their software worked and I have not hear any more
I saw the bug report about SANE breaking a number of scanner and tried some of their solution but to no avail.

I was going to give up but decided to give it a couple of days effort. I very much prefer staying than going.

Since individual installations can vary so much, manufacturers do not provide support for their products other than ensuring that they work for most users with the drivers they make available. Individual support is provided by fellow Linux Mint users on this forum.
I have two Epson multi-function-units and both are working perfectly.

The V370 is reported to work fine with the Epson-provided driver.

That is not something I can help you with; that is for you to decide.

Did you try this in a terminal: sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib/sane/libsane-epkowa* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane

That is what was meant to happen - nothing to see here.

Could you share the information that you used to get it working. It may be useful to others with a similar problem.

You can also mark your initial post as "solved".

Hello

I have fixed the problem I was having by following the process in the following Utube video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q82X7PpRaQ

He uses a different source package but using the one for the V370 works as well.
Thank you for your support.

Is this how you do the "solved" status?

That was a very long-winded video.

I am glad that you found a solution to suit.

SOLVED belongs on your first post, edit it there.

I experienced the problem with epson v37 Scanner. on the mentioned video i picked one step that made it going:
open or edit /etc/sane.d/dll.conf
insert below
#epson
epson2
epsonds
escl
a new line
epkowa
save and close and start scanning again.
