Found driver for Canon lbp612cdw, how do I install it. (Solved)

Post by farkas » Wed Mar 13, 2019 2:59 am

Linux Mint 18.3
Trying to install driver for Canon LBP612Cdw found on Canon website, https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/port ... -lbp612cdw.
Downloaded linux-UFRII-drv-v370-usen-06.tar.gz file.
Moved it to a new folder named Drivers and extracted files.
It created new folder, linux-UFRII-drv-v370-usen, with a lot of subfolders and an install.sh file.
Tried to run install.sh but nothing happened. How do I proceed?

The link that Brian just sent works but look out for the file names. They have been changed - well updated - since that was written. I have used the method (1) and it enabled me to install my printer but I still have some problems. Maybe you will fare better. I hope so.

I followed brian_p's suggestion to follow instructions on link
https://wiki.debian.org/PrinterDriver/C ... :_Method_1.
Scrolling down on that page there is an Installation of the Printer Drivers: Method 2. Used that instead of Method 1.
The files cited in Method 2 have been updated to:
cndrvcups-common_4.10-1_amd64.deb
cndrvcups-ufr2-us_3.70-1_amd64.deb
Installed the extra dependencies.
It worked!
There is a third file, cndrvcups-utility_1.10-1_amd64.deb, in the Debian folder. It wasn't mentioned in Method 2. I didn't install that one.
Should I? What does it do?
Thank You brian_p!

PS
When you go to: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/port ... me/support, and enter your model number it detects your OS and let you know if it has a driver for it. I also have Pixma printer, no drivers for it, out of luck on that one.

It's used in conjunction with install.sh to discover and set up a printer, so not needed at all.
