[SOLVED] Printer looks properly installed but isn't working

Post by Pangolin »

Hello.
I own a Brother HL-1210W wifi printer which I've been succesfully using since Linux Mint 17.
Now I'm trying to use this machine with LM 19.1 MATE over my wifi network as I'd been doing in the past but this time with no luck...
I installed driver and "CUPS wrapper" provided by the manufacturer and carefully followed the instructions.

The printer is properly connected to my wifi network with a static IP address, I can access it via its browser-based interface and print test pages.
I can also ping the printer's IP address from my PC.
When I try to print something from my PC the Brother printer is shown in the printers list, I can select it and tweak the driver's options but nothing comes out of the device nor do I receive any sort of error message.

Entering CUPS at http://localhost:631/jobs I can see all my print tests listed as they were completed... but they actually never were!
Can you please help me with this?
Thanks.

Take a look at this thread. Possibly uninstalling via the terminal and reinstalling might work. viewtopic.php?f=51&t=310665&hilit=brother

Hi LanceM and thanks for pointing me at that other discussion.
It didn't solve my issue, though.
After (really more than) a bit of research I've finally figured out what the problem was: my 64-bit system was missing a 32-bit library that is mandatory for the printer to work.
That is lib32z1.
Right after installing that lib, my HL-1210W came back to life and now it is perfectly working again :D
