Printer installation problem (wifi)

Post by spamator12 »

Hi! I have problem with installing my printer - DCP-L2560DW:

I have followed the instructions here:
https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloa ... &type3=625

I have read many manuals whits basically bring me to:
http://localhost:631/help/admin.html
and:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/387970

I have watch youtube videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p4U-px_yTA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ys5VqAEqVII
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIopEUAaAe0

and I CAN'T install drivers properly to use the printer... (other ppl when making those steps got the printer working).

TLDR:
When I press for example scan to pdf/image on printer LCD I can see only "check the connection" error message :(

On my router in ARP table I have binded printer IP to it MAC address.
So my laptop is for example: 192.168.1.10
My printer is 192.168.1.20

On my router I have 192.168.1.10 = aa:bb:cc:dd:ee (PC mac address)
On my router I have 192.168.1.20 = ff:gg:hh:ii:jj (PRINTER mac address)

I have set the IP address AT the printer to 192.168.1.20 mask 255.55.255.0 and gateway to 192.168.1.1
I have pass the IP 192.168.1.20 during installation printer drivers...

and IT IS NOT WORKING. I cant scan/print (printing/scan orders) when using my PC so the printer can receive commands by wifi and actually print/scan something.

I'm out of ideas. Anybody with some thought on this? It is working on windows 7 - I have check it.

@LanceM, thanks but this goes to nowhere. I can print from my computer (via WI-FI) but I can't scan at brother printer (so scan is send to my PC with linux via WI-FI).

I can't work this out.

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep -i Brother
ii brscan-skey 0.3.1-1 amd64 Brother Linux scanner S-KEY tool
ii brscan4 0.4.9-1 amd64 Brother Scanner Driver
ii dcpl2560dwcupswrapper:i386 3.2.0-1 i386 Brother DCP-L2560DW CUPS wrapper driver
ii dcpl2560dwlpr:i386 3.2.0-1 i386 Brother DCP-L2560DW LPR driver

EDIT:
I did find viewtopic.php?t=195627 but it was no help for me either.

Adding your username to the group that owns the scanner, lp in my case, may also be needed.

Code: Select all

sudo adduser $USER lp
that do the trick!

EDIT3: lol to fast... It stop at "connecting"... and never connect. I can only run "Document scanner" program and scan via WI-FI, but scanning from printer via SAME WI-FI SETTINGS is not working...

Your device has an AirPrint service. I would set it up with driverless printing and scanning.
