[SOLVED] Can't install Samsung M2020 on Mint 20.1

My first question here!

I googled a lot before post this question. I could not find a way to make Mint 20.1 works with my Samsung Xpress M2020. It was working fine before I installed this version.

Cups and Samsung drivers are installed and updated, but the printer is not automatically recognized. I tried to add manually, but when I print anything the job is complete without printing.

Any help?

What version of Mint were you using before you installed Mint 20.1?
Did you upgrade from LM20 or was LM20.1 a fresh install?

I was using Mint 20 and I did a fresh and clean install.

New features in Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon in the "Printing and Scanning improvements" section indicates, "In Linux Mint 20.1 ippusbxd was removed so printing and scanning work the same way as in Linux Mint 19.x and prior releases.".

That section also links to some new notes in Linux Mint User Guide: Printers and Scanners.

Maybe some of that information will give you an idea of what is different with your LM20.1 install compared to your LM20 install and what you might need to do to get the printer working. Maybe you will need to add back the package which was in LM20, but was removed for LM20.1?

Thank you for your reply. I follow every suggestion and I got a progress. Now the printer is detected and added. But it does not work at all. Every job keep waiting printer to become online, but it's online.

Why it is so hard now if I just plugged the cable before? Very disappointed with 20.1. I will keep in my research, but every page I read says the same.

So the printer is showing as online on Mint, but the applications from which you send the print jobs are thinking it is not online?

What types of files have you tried to print?

Nothing is printed. Test page, pdf document, web page... The job starts and immediately stops "waiting print to become online".

I do not have a lot of experiencing troubleshooting printer problems. In both cases where I had problems, I rolled back to an earlier Timeshift snapshot. In the first case with LM19.3, the printer had been working, but a change I made rendered it inoperable. I reverted back to the working system.

In the second case was my attempt to get my printer working after I installed LM20. Nothing I did was working, so I reverted back to the snapshot I'd taken before I started making changes to try to get it to work to make a second attempt. I have no idea what I did differently the second time, but it worked.

Maybe someone else will have ideas to help you.

It's finally working! I did so many changes and tests and now the hard think is tell what was the really problem. In resume, I did this:

• Removed pre printer several times before each test;

• Removed pre installed cups;

• Download latest Cups from source, compile and installed from scratch;

• Removed all previous Samsung and HP drivers;

• Download and installed the latest HP 0.39.01 driver from here: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software ... .17.tar.gz

• Installed the new ipp-usb driver from apt get;

• Reboot a lot of times;

• Tested the printer using all USB ports;

• Many other unsuccessful things I don't remember.

I did so many things and I can't tell you for sure what hit the target. But now it's printing. Take a look at the list I tried: viewtopic.php?p=1990999#p1990999
