[Solved] Problems with my Epson WF C5710

Post by 86ul »

Dear fellow Mint users,

Recently I did a clean install to get Mint 20.1, and I could print files using all ppssoble apps, including Vivaldi (Chromium based webbrowser). After installing Gnome Boxes and trying to get the connect with my printer bridged (changing ports I think, link), so that I can use my printer directly in W10 on Gnome Boxes, that project failed. Not only that, I can no longer print using Vivaldi (quit handy for previews of pdf and such). But I still can print with LibreOffice, and such, because Mint still recognize my printer.

Because I have update Vivaldi in the meantime, i thought that is just a bug in the update. I also undid the changes to get Gnome Boxes bridge that I have made by reverting these steps. Then I installed the Linux drivers from Epson their own product website. Their software recognize the printer, but is unable to connect with it, even when I print a file with LibreOffice. Thus my printer is still connected, but not all apps recognize and can work with it correctly

Thus my problem is that; although Cinnamon recognize my printer and I can print using LibreOffice, I have problems with other apps. Vivaldi does not recognize it at all, the Linux drivers recognize it, but can not work with it and Gnome is still unable to talk to my printer.

Here is the result of inxi -Fxxxrz

Before I do anything stupid (again?), I decided to learn and to ask you: How can I get my printer working?

PS. With Timeshift, I can go back the settings after a clean install on February 27th 2021, but I prefer to learn from my mistakes.

EDIT: The printer is connected with cable and over a powerline, and I can access the settings over the IP; both with my smartphone and with Vivaldi.

Solution: New printer from another brand.

I know, not literally solved, but I do no longer have an issue with my Epson, because I do not own that Epson printer anymore.
