Trouble Installing Dymo Labelwriter 400

Post by WoToo »

Hi,

I had this labelwriter on a previous fresh install of LM20 six months ago and it installed no problem, automagically even. Now I installed it on another computer, with LM20 I just installed, where it's actually needed and no bueno. It appears on Printers automatically but nothing prints, not even Test Print.

Then I took someone's suggestion on a previous case and tried lprint (installed via Software Manager, not Snaps):

viewtopic.php?f=51&t=344325

Commandline just gives me this:
$ lprint add -d SmallDymo -v usb://DYMO/LabelWriter%20400?serial=05031814492760 -m dymo_lw-400

Unable to start lprint server: No such file or directory
Could use some help, it's pretty much the entire reason I changed this computer over from Ubuntu, as nothing there installed the dymo.

What worked for me in that other thread came from the Software Manager. Search for "Dymo label printer" or something like that, (I am not at my Linux computer at the moment to check the precise title). Nielo's recommendation for glabels software is also worthwhile.

You probably want to install printer-driver-dymo.

CUPS filter driver for various DYMO label printers: LabelManager 400, 450, PC,
PC II and PnP; LabelPoint 350 and LabelWriter 300, 310, 315, 320, 330,
330 Turbo, 400, 400 Turbo, 450, 450 DUO Label, 450 DUO Tape, 450 Turbo,
450 Twin Turbo, 4XL, DUO Label, DUO Tape, DUO Tape 128, SE450 and Twin Turbo.

This package contains the CUPS filter driver and the compressed PPDs for the
supported label printers.

That's the one. In fact the only result when searching for "Dymo".

Hi, well the first thing I already did was install the Printer-Driver-Dymo...

All my Dymo Labelwriter does is ignore prints, test prints, well anything. It "ate" the label a half-inch or so and that's it. This same label writer worked on my other computer just a few days ago so it's not that piece of hardware.

Trying lprints, but it simply doesn't see the device.

Code: Select all

$ lprint
lprint: No files to print.
$ lprint devices
$
Could this somehow be a USB issue somehow? My bios is UEFI and I had to set it originally for Ubuntu somehow and didn't change it on reinstall for linux mint. It all seems to work including speakers except for this labelwriters.

Okay, now I have disabled (unchecked Enabled on right click) the printer in the Printers - localhost.

lprint sees it now. But I'm having trouble adding it.

Maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Code: Select all

worker@JustaPC:~$ sudo lprint devices
usb://DYMO/LabelWriter%20400?serial=05031814492760
worker@JustaPC:~$ sudo lprint add -d SmallDymo -v usb://DYMO/LabelWriter%20400?serial=05031814492760 -m dymo_lw-400
Unable to start lprint server: No such file or directory
I think from this, it should be working?

https://www.msweet.org/lprint/lprint.html

I installed lprint via software sources.

I can't help with Lprint unfortunately, I know nothing about it. Can I assume you have set the default label size to match what you are using?

All I can suggest is to try another USB port, or even another computer if you have one available, to prove whether the printer is at fault.
