I got a new printer, turned on it is automaticly recognized via wifi and uses driverless, but it is not printing from everywhere only some work

It does print from:

Libre office writer

It does not print from:

Xreader
Gimp

Thunderbird mail

In all cases it displays 2 popups, first Printing and then Printing completed

As I saw the exact same problem in another thread, when searching around. I will take that asked info, from Brian, and post it here too
Ecotanks are on the market for some while, but this one is at least here in the EU new, released this october. Available to buy only in the past 2 weeks.

Code: Select all

~$ avahi-browse _ipp._tcp

+ enp5s0 IPv6 EPSON_ET_2810_Series @ DesktopG Internet Printer local
+ enp5s0 IPv6 Printer G @ Desk-F Internet Printer local
+ enp5s0 IPv6 EPSON ET-2810 Series Internet Printer local
+ enp5s0 IPv6 Samsung M2020 Series @ Desk-F Internet Printer local

+ enp5s0 IPv4 Samsung M2020 Series @ Desk-F Internet Printer local
+ lo IPv4 Printer G @ Desk-F Internet Printer local
+ lo IPv4 Samsung M2020 Series @ Desk-F Internet Printer local
Uscan did not give any result, so I figure the scanner will not work either, but that is not critical, printing is.

Code: Select all

~$ avahi-browse _uscan._tcp

Code: Select all

~$ driverless

so to the command "driverless" on our system, our HP shows up as
HHP%20OfficeJet%204650%20series%20%5B41F654%5D._ipp._tcp.local/
if I separate that out a little and compare it to yours I seem to get

Code: Select all

EPSON %20 ET-2810 %20 Series. _ipp._tcp.local/ /
and for us

Code: Select all

HP %20 OfficeJet %20 4650 %20 series %20% 5B 41E954%5D. _ipp._tcp.local
you can see you are missing a string of text .. in our case
5B 41E954%5D.
_____________________________

I just wonder if you delete the entry for this ET in the Printers folder; then click the ADD button top-left; have a cup of tea; let the system offer you some options; (likely a network printer??) and see if the system can create a new (driverless) entry;

someone recently did find installing the drivers that Epson provide .. did work .. I am sure brian would wish us to persevere with driverless for a while

I much prefer to go to Epson's Website and get their Linux Drivers and download them.
Install the drivers and your problems usually go away, I do NOT like Driverless.

so if you follow AZG's advice for Epson drivers, you go here http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/du/02 ... 18373ed45c

and download the 64bit AMD Printer driver
epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.7.17-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
as you click to download it, the programme gdebi installer should leap in and offer to assist: it will offer to open the above package;

.... it means install ....... so if you do that, it will 1) install the drivers and 2) register the printer with lpadmin and 3) the printer should work

_______-
if you follow the above, delete beforehand what is NOT WORKING in your printers folder; then hopefully you will have only one (working) icon; however Mint will likely create a new (driverless) entry so you need to be able to distinguish which is which ........

_________
for the scanner driver, go here http://support.epson.net/linux/en/epsonscan2.php and download what will be epsonscan2-bundle-6.6.2.5.x86_64.deb.tar.gz

to install that,

Code: Select all

cd Downloads
and then

Code: Select all

tar -zxvf epsonscan2-bundle-6.6.2.5.x86_64.deb.tar.gz
and then

Code: Select all

./install.sh
.. meaning ..... copy these 3 commands in turn; paste into a terminal; hit the ENTER key after each paste

Thanks for the replies, but I already tried the Epson drivers as stated in my first post, and that did not help sadly enough.
First I tried only the first: ESC/P-R Driver (generic driver)
Second I added the second: Epson Printer Utility
Third I tried adding the scanner too: All-in-one package

Also tried to add it manually, lolled at the many entries that would result in, but also no joy there, only printing from Firefox and Libre.
But possibly made wrong choices when adding it manually..?

I can not delete the wifi printer as it is automaticly added again when turned on, or instantly when on, also when connected with usb.

Regarding the string, I did not come across that anywhere though, my other printer also does not have it and works fine, but is on usb.
I also tried everything on a second computer that is 100% the same hardware as mine, without any printer installation and it is the same there. Can only print from Libre and Firefox and nothing else.

This output seems incomplete. I'd have expected more from such a recently marketed device. Do you have a manual? Does it mention AirPrint?

Most unexpected.

Code: Select all

~$ driverless

ipp://EPSON%20ET-2810%20Series._ipp._tcp.local/
We will establish a print queue manually:

Code: Select all

lpadmin -p et2810 -v "ipp://EPSON%20ET-2810%20Series._ipp._tcp.local/" -E -m everywhere
A quick test:

Code: Select all

lp -d et2810 /etc/nsswitch.conf

Here is a manual online, it does not mention Airprint though https://download.epson-europe.com/pub/d ... 1596eu.pdf

I did the lpadmin and it printed an /etc/nsswitch.conf file, the newly added printer still not works in other programs, but I will reboot now and check again.

Still nothing, all the same as before, also no avahi uscan result.

I am more bothered that _ipp._tcp gives what looks like a truncated output.

You can print from Firefox and LibreOffice and with lp. It would be hard to argue that there is anything untoward with the printer and the printing system. However, it seems that, if /etc/nsswitch.conf is displayed in Xed, it will not print.

Save Xed's display to file from the print dialog. I'll call it test.pdf; you might name it differently. Now try

Code: Select all

lp -d et2810 test.pdf
fron the directory test.pdf is in.

I'm not sure what you mean by that :?

I took another xed document and used that. However
Naming it as pdf resulted in a 'Print Error' There was a problem processing document 'test.pdf' (job 187)

I renamed it test.txt and it printed correct, so that is a step forward :D

OK. We debug:

Code: Select all

sudo cupsctl --debug-logging

Code: Select all

sudo >/var/log/cups/error_log
Print from Xreader as before. Send /var/log/cups/error_log here as an attachment. It will be too big to copy and paste.
