Scanner HP don't work....
Hello to all who will read this request for help,
I recently bought an HP scanner model “scanjet pro 2500 f1”, but MINT 20.2, it doesn't see it, it's as if it were blind !!!! despite being connected to the USB port !!
with the result that to use the scanner I have to use Windows, then bring the files produced by the scanner to mint, wasting time. Since I opted for Mint, I have no desire to return to WIN, can someone suggest me some tests to do?
Pc in use new one year (i5), SSD nvme, SSD with Win etc. etc.
thanks in advance for the suggestions you will give me.
Rik

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
According to HP's website the ScanJet pro 2500 is supported in version 3.19.1 of HPlip
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... ices/index
HPLIP is currently looking like 3.21.8
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... g/gethplip
I recommend that you install the hplip package from HP on the link above and then there is a link below that for installation instructions.
Let us all know how it goes.

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
The easy way to install hplip is to go to the synaptic package manager (click on the menu then start to type in the search bar synaptic - it will come up) enter your password then seach on hplip.coffee412 wrote: ⤴Wed Oct 27, 2021 10:55 am According to HP's website the ScanJet pro 2500 is supported in version 3.19.1 of HPlip

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
so feinwerkbau; welcome to the forum;
all recent printers seem to be airprint-compatible, and can be called "driverless":
if you paste this command into a terminal: ask if you need more help;
if you reboot your system, and see if it recognises the scanner
I would suggest doing the above before attempting to install an external version of hplip;
as Mint comes with a recent version of hplip already installed; and that version would be fine; if you elected to activate it;

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
Many thanks to everyone
I tried everything possible this afternoon but I'm scanner not being detected by the OS !!!
HPLIP TO VERSION 3.21.2
I am really angry, I suspect that, in the driver if it does not see a hdd / ssd formatted with NTFS, this will not be detected.
I installed a ssd with windows, and by the way, my shopkeeper that I usually use told me: Windows does not see the linux disk, but on the contrary the linux disk sees the windows disk !!!!
I guess I'll have to keep both discs.
I sincerely thank all those who have provided me with help.

Here is a post from a similar thread from a while back
Remember when you go to the HP develpers sites to then click on Downloads
just replace 3.19.12 with 3.21.2
majpooper wrote: ⤴Wed Jan 08, 2020 10:21 pm You indeed need the plugin and the min hplip is 3.18.5 - below is the HP development site on which to verify which hplip version you need and if you need the plugin
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... ices/index
Download the latest version of hplip and the plugin 3.19.12
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... g/gethplip (hplip)
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... ng/plugins (you want the 3.19.12 .run file)
cut and paste these commands into the terminalCode: Select all
chmod +x ~/Downloads/hplip-3.19.12.run
These will solve the permission needed to execute the .run filesCode: Select all
chmod +x ~/Downloads/hplip-3.19.12-plugin.run
use the defaults marked with a *Code: Select all
./Downloads/hplip-3.19.12.run
At the end you will see a notice that the plugin needs to be installed - there are two ways to do this the gui (u) or interactive (i). The gui may be the easiest even though you have already downloaded the plugin.run file. Personally I prefer the interactive (i) so I input i and then q (to quit) and install the plugin directly.Code: Select all
./Downloads/hplip-3.19.12-plugin.run

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
Hi everyone who helped me solve the mystery of the undetected scanner, even though the USB port is connected. Reading on the site http://www.sane-project.org/man/sane-fi ... ner.1.html
i tried this interesting step, I edited terminal
sane-find-scanner -v
of which I am attaching the answer obtained from the OS.
Someone can give me some explanations on this, as I am not a programmer, but a simple hobbyist. Thanks 1000 for your help, riccardo.

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
so a couple of posts up, I mentioned this bug report thread from Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1847142
the final comment was
and if I understand that, a folder called hplip-plugin will be in Downloads
so
then create symbolic links
then reboot: any joy?
the final comment was
so to separate it out: they feel you need the hp-plugin and get it from here https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... ng/plugins so work out which version of hplip you might have; and get the same version number; it should arrive into your Downloads folder so doHi all, I went through this about a year ago and what I remember that all this scanner needs to work with sane is to find two libs in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane: - hpgt2500_ntdcmsdll-x86_64.so - libsane-hpgt2500-x86_64.so.1.0.27 It doesn't even need to install hplip (that wasn't working for me anyhow)
To extract those files download "hplip-3.21.2-plugin.run (or newer version) here: https://developers.hp.com/sites/default ... plugin.run
Then change attribute for execution permission: chmod +x hplib-3.21.2-plugin.run Then run: ./hplip-3.21.2-plugin.run --target hplip-plugin
Go to newly created hplip-plugin directory and you will find the two libs. Copy those libs to sane lib directory:
sudo cp hpgt2500_ntdcmsdll-x86_64.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane
sudo cp libsane-hpgt2500-x86_64.so.1.0.27 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane
Go to sane libs directory: cd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane and Create the symbolic links with version:
sudo ln -s libsane-hpgt2500-x86_64.so.1.0.27 libsane-hpgt2500-x86_64.so
sudo ln -s libsane-hpgt2500-x86_64.so.1.0.27 libsane-hpgt2500-x86_64.so.1

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
@pdc_2 Just as I go to post this - you beat me to it. lol....
Good Evening...
So, I did some extensive research on your scanner. It appears that it is not supported in linux by HP without a "plugin" file that would need to be installed. There is a bit of work after that though.
Below is the thread I was reading thru that might bring you relief on this problem. Specifically post # 47 on this link:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1847142
I think if you are now fully frustrated and thinking of bashing this scanner with an axe then this might be worth a try. It appears that it can work with a bit of work.
According to Francis Hauber in post #47:
Worth a shot?

I think if you are now fully frustrated and thinking of bashing this scanner with an axe then this might be worth a try. It appears that it can work with a bit of work.
According to Francis Hauber in post #47:
This might be a bit more tinkering than what you want to do but I think following his approach - and asking questions here if you get stuck - will probably get it working.Finally to get this scanner work under Linux I downloaded the HPLIP plugin for the ScanJet Pro 2500F1 from HP and extracted the relevant files:
- libsane-hpgt2500.so.1.0.27
- hpgt2500_ntdcmsdll.so
I then copied both files into /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane and generated the symbolic links such as libsane-hpgt2500.so and libsane-hpgt2500.so.1)
I made sure the UDEV required file are installed within /ulib/udev/rules.d
Scanner is now working well with xsane or simple-scan (hplip doesn't bring much more I think)
Worth a shot?

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
Hello everyone,
I tried all the suggestions you proposed but without result, these were the various phases:
1. I downloaded the latest version of hplip, 3.21.10
2. I have installed hplip
3. I went to look for the two famous files that are needed to start I'm blessed scanner, (scanjet pro 2500 f1; only SCANNER NO MULTIFUNCTION), they do not exist in the folder generated during the installation of hplip; so I stopped at this point.
4. I enclose, as proof of the successful installation of hplip, the hp check log file
5. I am also attaching the files.so generated during installation, as report in old post....
6. I ask what are the files to put in the folder
I hope you can give me a concrete hand, I repeat I am not a programmer, but a good user. Thanks to everyone for the help and the time wasted in solving this question.

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
I am sorry: I am not clear that you followed all the steps that I detailed in that post a few back:
there will be a version of hplip installed already; so I don't think we told you to do a fresh install of hplip: you have done that yourself; we did not tell you to do it;
all that I can suggest was that you do what I copied from the ubuntu page:
and it was all around just installing the hp-plugin; and then modifying things as detailed in what I copied from the ubuntu post; that was all;
if you look, you can see there were files that need to be copied; and then symbolic links created: please tell us if you did exactly what was cited in that earlier post I did;
(karlchen detailed a year or two back; that if you just installed a new version of hplip; over an earlier and already installed version; that it could cause issues)

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
Good morning / good evening who will read this post, to "PDC2", but I do not exclude that others can provide me with the answer to my question:
--- how can I save the hplip-3.21.2-plugin.run file on PC; like as my hplip version installed; since if I click on it it opens the file and does not allow me to download it ?? the file is available at https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... ng/plugins

It looks like the site is broken - I am having the same problem that you are having. I have downloaded plugins from the site many times in the past. Hopefully the site will be fixed soon.feinwerkbau wrote: ⤴Sat Nov 27, 2021 5:19 am Good morning / good evening who will read this post, to "PDC2", but I do not exclude that others can provide me with the answer to my question:

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
This scanner is a troublesome device for other users. However at https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1847142 we see
The outcome of sane-find-scanner hasn't anything to do with the scanner itself but with the state of the user's system. Perhaps you could explore permissions at https://wiki.debian.org/Scanner. is the command to look at.
Yourfound USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x6005 [HP ScanJet Pro 2500 f1]) at libusb:001:003
sane-find-scanner -v
does not show this. Interesting!The outcome of sane-find-scanner hasn't anything to do with the scanner itself but with the state of the user's system. Perhaps you could explore permissions at https://wiki.debian.org/Scanner.
Code: Select all
ls -l /dev/bus/usb/*/*

Re: Scanner HP don't work....
Thanks for the reply,
I am very disheartened, I think but I hope I am wrong, no one, but I mean no one, will take the burden of putting an end to this bug. It seems easy to me, but maybe it is not, to set HPLIP again, eliminating the bug that deletes the files. It seems that it is easy, but it is not, as the great poet Dante Alighieri said.
I will continue to use it with window, despite myself.
thanks again for all the wasted time.
