Brother Printer MFC J5620DW can not be installed
Hello,
my printer from BROTHER was previously fond by the Linux Minnt cinnamon OS
and ready to print.
However, this is no longer the case.
I have tried to install it via the hints on the brother page with their drivers,
but without success.
Regards, Ritter meH

Re: Brother Printer MFC J5620DW can not be installed
Hi Ritter; thanks for the details; so that is airprint compatible; so Mint ......... should .......... be able to set it up .......
is it seen on
and
can you tell us what you get please
If you delete any existing entries in your PRINTERS folder; as you say they do not work; top-left in the PRINTERS folder is an ADD button: this should prompt Mint to attempt to set the printer; if Mint sees it: it is a wireless connection: there is an option in the ADD button to let the system look for wireless printers; our HP has had a couple of wobbles; will no long print; setting up a new name; using the ADD has been good so far;
(from within the PRINTERS folder, there is also a TROUBLESHOOTING setup: just press the F1 key with PRINTERS open; follow that before trying the ADD function; just to see how the diagnostics goes from there ......>>)
is it seen on
Code: Select all
lpstat -t
Code: Select all
lpinfo -v

Re: Brother Printer MFC J5620DW can not be installed
For a wireless connection the first step required establishing a connection between the router and the printer itself. Done from the key panel on the printer. After that the Brother software gets installed.

Hi,
this is the System reply:
- I dont want to use my printer via wireless LAN. The printer is connected
with my wired network. I can see the webbased interface of the printer and my pings to the
printer will be answered correctly.
- I have already tried to delete all printers, but Mint did not recognize my printer.

Re: Brother Printer MFC J5620DW can not be installed
Hi,
I mean, that my printer will answer the pings from my Linux machine.
I can not see any printers on cups.
Bye the way, sometimes the printer is useable (i can print), but only every 8th or 9th startup.

If you type the IP address for your printer into your browser can you see the web page for your printer, e.g.

Re: Brother Printer MFC J5620DW can not be installed
My network printer is normally found automatically by Mint. I have other computers (with the same operating system) that always find the printer. By the way - all computers are in the same network.
My problem is that the printer is only sporadically found by a specific computer.
This means that sometimes the printer is found automatically and sometimes not.

Sporadic issues are not easy to deal with. As already said,Ritter meH wrote: ⤴Sun Jan 23, 2022 7:59 am My network printer is normally found automatically by Mint. lpinfo -v
does not see the printer, so CUPS cannot set it up.At the very least I would examine the ethernet cable connetctions between printer and router (or computer) and maybe even swap it out. Give

Re: Brother Printer MFC J5620DW can not be installed
Hi "Ritter meH",
Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum!
I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.
It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.
I have a Brother MFC-J491dw printer that worked perfectly in Linux Mint after installing their printer and scanner drivers versions prior to Linux Mint v20+ when Linux Mint switched to the new "driverless printing" system. After reading the post in the link below (my reply is on page 2) all I had to do was remove the "ippusbxd" package from the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)", and removed any existing printers from my printer settings, rebooted and then I could add my printer as a USB printer like before and printing and scanning now works. I also had to clear any existing print jobs from the printer by hitting the Stop/Exit button. I also tried the newer version of "ippusbxd" called "ipp-usb" and it would also not work and had to be removed.

Hi "Ritter meH",
FYI: It did not matter with my brother printer setup as a network printer or connected to USB, that "ippusbxd" package had to be removed for it to work.Ritter meH wrote:By the way, the printer is not an usb-device...It is a Network-Printer.

And checking in synaptic I do not have ippusbxd or ipp-usb installed and have never had a problem installing a brother network printer.

Hi Ritter meH,
just a dumb question: did you assign a static IP to the Printer via the Web-IF or is it connected via DHCP to the Router?
Kind Regards HPD
