Brother MFCL2750DW won't print on Linux Mint 20.2

I read through and tried suggestions from viewtopic.php?f=51&t=331692 "Got Brother MFC-L2710DW to print and scan on LM 20", and the referenced viewtopic.php?f=51&t=325340 "Brother MFC-L2750 no longer scans after upgrade to Mint 20 - Solved". Yet, my printing solution seems to be a mystery.

• I'm using a Brother MFC-L2750-DW.

• This printer works fine with my Linux Mint 19.3 machines.

• I used Santiago777's suggested method of installing mfcl2750dwpdrv-4.0.0-1.i386.deb directly.

The deb package runs the code below:

sudo lpadmin -p MFCL2750DW -E -v dnssd://Brother%20MFC-L2750DW%20series._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/ -P /usr/share/ppd/brother/brother-MFCL2750DW-cups-en.ppd

This adds the first printer to the local printer list. When attempting to print a test page the Printer State stays at idle.

I tried a number of other options, see below. "Make and Model" doesn't mean I switched printers. This is the label that the Printer Properties dialog places on the field.

The above mentioned directory already exists, is owned by user "lp" and is readable/executable by everyone.


Some diagnostics info shows that the pages are getting queue, just not to the printer.

The printer is 10.0.0.14 on my network easily reached by ping and by other hosts. I disabled the firewall on the LM 20.2 machine without any change in results. I didn't see anything odd in /var/log/syslog or its counterpart journalctl

Is the machine WiFi button solid green?

The printer and the computers are all wired with CAT-5e cable and run through 1GB network switches.
I've tested the network connections, which are solid.

I found my printers would often get confused from the system constantly searching for available printers. This I blocked by modifying the avahi-daemon.conf file. sudo nano /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf

In that file:
change “use-ip4=yes” to “use-ip4=no”
change “use-ip6=yes” to “use-ip6=no”

Your system will then recognize only those printers you personally setup.

I was trying to use wifi hence my question about the green light. However if you already know the address type it in using the setup script from Brother (ipp) or go to the properties of the installed printer and change the address manually
(ex: ipp://192.168.0.234)
