Hello, I'm having problems with the above scanner in that its not found. It is turned on before the PC is started.
The scanner is set to device ID 2 and terminated. Its the only scsi device connected.
The scanner is connected to adaptec aha2904 card. The card is "found " when rescanning the SCSI bus
When the machine boots the scanner resets itself and self tests.(implying there is some communication ?)
Unfortunately I do not know if the scanner is faulty.
Could I be missing some additional codes ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Russ
sudo rescan-scsi-bus returns the following

Re: canoscan FS2710 SCSI scanner not found
hi russ; can you give us a little background: ie ........ you have just installed Mint; .......... you have never used linux before ......... you have used Windows up till now ..... this device worked fine on win??
Re: canoscan FS2710 SCSI scanner not found
Thanks for the reply.
I have just installed mint.
I have never used Linux before.
I tried this device on a win 7 32bit platform.
The same issue was present.
I'm not sure if the device has a problem or if there's a communication system missing.
Thinking a device issue but no real way to check at the moment.
Thanks Russ

Re: canoscan FS2710 SCSI scanner not found
so how long have you owned this scanner? Did it ever work for you?
The best way to get it to work; is to use Vuescan https://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/canon_fs2710.html
linux is free as in .......... free speech ............. not always free as in ............ free beer ......... Vuescan ask for a contribution;

Re: canoscan FS2710 SCSI scanner not found
This is an old bit of hardware, using an old scsi card and not supported in later versions of windows.
I have used Vuescan for many years with an old (c2001) Canon 8800F and it does a great job.
You will need the Professional edition and just to be clear it is not 'donationware', it is a single eternal license and you'll find the price on the web site. You will need the Pro edition for film scanning. Obviously go for the free trial (watermarks) version first!

Re: canoscan FS2710 SCSI scanner not found
It was bought in last couple off weeks off an auction site. I have never had it working under any environment.
It was still in the original packing some protective films still attached..... maybe this was a bad thing as it could have been dead out of the box all them years ago.
I have tried vuescan but that does not recognise the scanner.
Since the OS does not find the scanner vuescan cannot communicate with it.
I will try to source a terminator and a second device so that I can cannibalise it for parts if required and see what the outcome is.
Thanks again
Russ

Re: canoscan FS2710 SCSI scanner not found
The manual says that this scanner is supplied with an AVA2904E which is not the same as the AHA2904 that you mentioned originally.rustynut wrote: ⤴Wed Jan 19, 2022 3:35 am It was bought in last couple off weeks off an auction site. I have never had it working under any environment.

There's a very old post from Ed Hamrick about this combination here http://www.verycomputer.com/49_bad1fac44a0431b1_1.htm just scroll down a bit.
Re: canoscan FS2710 SCSI scanner not found
Thanks again.
I have just checked the card and realised that I made a mistake it is an AVA2904 card but not the original one supplied with the scanner as it has the 50 pin internal
connector also.
The card is found by mint as the bus scan shows the host adaptor (AVA2904) or the chipset aic7xxx
"Host adapter 6 (aic7xxx) found."
When I rescan the bus the device ids increment but no device is identified
I am beginning to think that the scanner is itself faulty. It does not work on Linux mint, win 7 or win vista as I have done fresh installs of all three on three HDDs.
Ill get hold of a second device and retest.
Ill post when I have more news.
Thanks Russ

Re: canoscan FS2710 SCSI scanner not found[solved]
A "new" cable resolved the problem. Although the original cable showed continuity at each pin there must be more to SCSI.
Thanks for the help
