Don't think that filter will help you unfortunately. I was just trying to paint a picture of the hoops I had to jump through to get RP-211 laser printer working correctly. You would have a heck of a job to find that these days so I wouldn't bother if I were you. I'll have a look if there is anything else I can suggest and get back to you.

Give this a try -

Uninstall the printer

Restart the pc

Open a terminal

Type in the following command exactly as it appears to install further resources

sudo apt-get install jbigkit-bin inotify-tools printer-driver-all foomatic-db-engine openprinting-ppds

Reinstall the printer, checking carefully what drivers you are offered in the drop list

Test the printer

Let us know how you get on

Honestly don't believe rasterlilo filter will help you at all with that model printer but if you want to pm me with your email I'll send it to you and the procedure I have to implement to make it work (not complicated).

Thanks for your effort trying to help. I've dug up and found some of your posts in your journey making your printer work and already did that. For a little peace of mind, tried again as you said, but unfortunately, no dice.

I've found some brazilian forums and people there seemed to made it work, followed it too but I'm still in the same boat, it always report printing to be done but nothing comes out from the printer, even tried all the ports and protocols found using nmap, every driver availiable (in the distro and from openprinting).

I'm about to call an exorcist and man, I'm itching to dump windows btw...

Thank you for your effort and support, despite I'm not being able to make it work, I really apreciate all the contributions everyone brought here.

Early on, pdc_2 proposed gutenprint as a solution. This was then mentioned another two times. The suggestion to install printer-driver-gutenprint appears to have been ignored.

Hi there Brian, thanks for posting here.
I was away from the forum and didn`t post a adequate reply to pdc.

"printer-driver-gutenprint" is installed by default.

Oh, never mind, my friend.

Just to give a disclaimer, whenever I got to test the solutions presented here, I do so on a live image or in a vm (with my wifi card in bridge mode).

Thanks for all the support guys.

"printer-driver-gutenprint" is installed by default.

Here is the output for lpinfo -m | grep 161:
A suitable PPD appears to be:

Code: Select all

gutenprint.5.3://ricoh-afc_mp_161/expert
Your lpino -v shows only a single URI:

Code: Select all

lpd://192.168.0.150/
and nmap indicates an open 515 port. There isn't any port 9100, which is rather a shame.

Anyway, substitute for URI and PPD, execute

Code: Select all

lpadmin -p mp161 -v URI -E -m PPD
and test with

Code: Select all

lp -d mp161 /etc/nsswitch.conf
I am not very confident with using lpd URIs. Ypu could also try

Code: Select all

lpd://192.168.0.150/queue

Hey Brian, good to hear from you again.

Here is the output for lpadmin -p mp161 -v URI -E -m PPD

Code: Select all

lpadmin: Printer drivers are deprecated and will stop working in a future version of CUPS.
lpadmin: Bad device-uri "URI".
and for lp -d mp161 /etc/nsswitch.conf

Code: Select all

lp: No such file or directory
So I thought it was lpadmin -d mp161 /etc/nsswitch.conf which gave me:

Code: Select all

lpadmin: The printer or class does not exist.
Tried the URIs: lpd://192.168.0.150/ , lpd://192.168.0.150/queue and lpd://192.168.0.150/PASSTHROUGH (as I`ve found in a brazilian forum) and all of them gave me the same outputs.

You`ve mentioned port 9100, which I supose is for jetdirectsocket, Windows uses port 10001 which nmap reports to be open, tried it too with the socket://192.168.0.150:10001 but didn`t made it work too.

Thank you for your effort, I very much apreciate it.

lpadmin: Printer drivers are deprecated and will stop working in a future version of CUPS.
That's OK.
lpadmin: Bad device-uri "URI".
Kristofer, this is not OK. You were asked to substitute for URI and PPD. Here is the complete command. Please check it.

Code: Select all

lpadmin -p mp161 -v lpd://192.168.0.150/queue -E -m gutenprint.5.3://ricoh-afc_mp_161/expert
and for lp -d mp161 /etc/nsswitch.conf

Code: Select all

lp: No such file or directory
The queue mp162 cannot be found because it has not been set up correctly.

I`ve changed the URI in the settings before (through the printer manager UI and cups web interface) and the PPD too.

But now I`ve done as you said:

Code: Select all

mint@mint:~$ lpadmin -p mp161 -v lpd://192.168.0.150/queue -E -m gutenprint.5.3://ricoh-afc_mp_161/expert
lpadmin: Printer drivers are deprecated and will stop working in a future version of CUPS.
mint@mint:~$ lpadmin -p mp161 -v URI -E -m PPD
lpadmin: Printer drivers are deprecated and will stop working in a future version of CUPS.
lpadmin: Bad device-uri "URI".
mint@mint:~$ lp -d mp161 /etc/nsswitch.conf
request id is mp161-2 (1 file(s))
That file is a test page.
Still got a bad URI. Holy moly, this printer sucks.

That is the only command to use, but you may execute it again with a different UR If that one does not give printing. For example, try lpd://192.168.0.150/mp161
mint@mint:~$ lpadmin -p mp161 -v URI -E -m PPD
lpadmin: Printer drivers are deprecated and will stop working in a future version of CUPS.
lpadmin: Bad device-uri "URI".
Do not use this command. It is not a valid command.

Please give what you get for

That implies that port 631 cannot be used. You are stuck with the lpd protocol and soting out a URI to use.

BTW, I cannot read most of the screen shot.

No; you need to add attachments; that are different and that can be read

what works; is to see the tab below called Attachments; when you are in the EDIT POST screen;
attach.png
attach.png (13.89 KiB) Viewed 624 times
look for the tab, then click on that; there you can attach screenshots; (jpg images); that can then be read
