This has been an ongoing problem for many years.
My HP Laserjet 1020 will install and work fine after a fresh OS install.
However, if I unplug the printer power cord and boot the machine the printer will not print upon subsequent boots (after plugging it back in, of course).
In other words:
(1) Unplug printer power cord
(2) Boot machine
(3) Turn machine off
(4) Plug printer back in
(5) Boot machine
(6) Printer no longer prints
I have tried deleting and adding the printer through both the system-config-printer GUI and localhost:631 browser interface.
I have tried rebooting using an older kernel.
The printer shows up after adding it or rebooting, it accepts jobs, it says "printing complete, but nothing prints.
The only way I know to fix it is to reinstall the OS.
Running Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon.
Printer is connected via a USB cord.
NOTE: I do not want to install the proprietary package from HP / HPLIP or whatever it is. I have used it in the past, but it is such a bloated piece of software and drivers I don't care to have it on my machine. I would rather reinstall the OS before installing HP's package.
