How to install my Brother DS-640 Scanner

Post by mintuser102 »

Hey, I'm a complete newbie here. So far, I am loving Linux, but definitely have a lot to learn! I have a brother DSmobile DS-640 Scanner. And I have no idea how to install it. I'm running Linux Mint Vanessa. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!!

I was able to download the driver. But the instructions to install read like a foreign language to me. I'm pretty sure I open the terminal. After that I'm not sure. Following are the instructions from the Brother website:

Login as a superuser (or use "sudo" option if required) .

Install the driver.

Turn on your MFC/DCP and connect the USB cable.
Open the terminal and go to the directory where the driver is.
Install the scanner driver.
Command (for dpkg) : dpkg -i --force-all  (scanner-drivername)
Check if the driver is installed.
Command (for dpkg) : dpkg -l | grep Brother

download the package brscan5-1.2.11-0.amd64.deb by default it goes in the download folder then install it with this

Code: Select all

cd Downloads && sudo dpkg -i --force-all brscan5-1.2.11-0.amd64.deb
or in alternative download directly in /home the package and install with this one command

Code: Select all

wget https://download.brother.com/welcome/dlf104033/brscan5-1.2.11-0.amd64.deb && sudo dpkg -i --force-all brscan5-1.2.11-0.amd64.deb
