[SOLVED] HPLIP Software for Linux Mint 21.1

Post by FenderGuy »

IF you're running Linux Mint 21.1,
AND you have an HP printer, AND you have HPLIP software installed,
THEN your expectations may NOT be realized...

so, until new HPLIP software is published, use HPLIP Version 3.22.10, and take your chances.

I think Mint21 comes with Hplip 3.21.12 installed doesn't it?
Or did I install it without thinking?
That seems to work well.

edit
The fog is clearing. Think I installed if from software manager. Seems good and has all the features it is supposed to. Works well.

Generalisations are never good, Give the printer name and its connection method.

Good call Brian.
Cinnamon 21.1
MFP477fdw using wifi (designated ip address)
HPLIP 3.21.12 works and gives duplex options which weren't there before it was installed. Happy with that.
I don't use it for network scanning as it is in a different room so can't vouch for that although could test it if anyone desperately wants to know.

Just wanted to post in case this helps anyone...

I have been struggling with the Scan function on my HP Officejet 8720 for past few months (thinking about it since upgrading to Linux 21). Printer has been working fine, only scanning impacted.

I read somewhere to install a plugin. I tried it and scanning is working fine from the hplip and system dialog. To install the plugin, open a terminal and enter "sudo hp-plugin".

Now i need to solve the other problem whereby the scanner is not working through the Hp web portal open in the browser, throws an error 'scanning not enabled'!

Did you run "sudo hp-setup" from the command prompt?

Hmmm... I'm stumped. Perhaps one of our "experts" will chime in. Good luck!
