Samsung CLP315 Laser printer

Post by Paul L »

I have a Samsung CLP315W laser printer on my home network. My daughter's Mint 7 system correctly identified the network printer as a CLP315 and set up perfectly (she's overjoyed!) My Mint 8 system recognised it as a CLP310 printer and set it up. Unfortunately, it won't print properly; I get a printed message to install the correct driver (ie CLP315)

I can't find an option to choose my printer in preference to the discovered one. Is this possible? Or can I get a driver elsewhere?

Please help - I'm quickly running out of hair!

so openprinting

http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Sam ... ng-CLP-315

says the splix driver works for this;

would it be worth installing it;

and then going into cups

http://localhost:631/

and via manage printer, add our CLP-315

........ indeed before adding a new driver, can you look in CUPS and see if there are already options there for you? ......... paste the http://localhost:631/ into a browser ..........

is this any use to you?

This may be too late to help you but someone else searching for a Samsung printer problem may benefit. I could not get a good print from a Samsung CLX-3175 colour laser printer under Mint 9 (too dark and muddy). However the Samsung support
website http://www.samsung.com/us/support/detai ... CLX-3175FN
has a link to a Universal Print Driver/Unified Driver that works very well. I'd strongly suggest that anyone having trouble getting a good print from a Samsung printer try this. As an unexpected bonus this is open source (BSD licence).
Clicking on the blue text reveals install instructions for linux. Also included are files for something called a Smart Panel and a Printer Setting Utility but I did not install those because it seemed perfect with just the Unified Driver.
This is a multifunction printer but the scanner part worked fine without any messing around just using the default Simple Scan program that comes with Mint 9.

Just thought I'd post an update - Version 10 and 11 of Mint correctly identified my printer and it works brilliantly - result
