If I add disable netbios = yes to smb.conf I can only see the local host folder; IE: CPR4. The others do not display and the Windows Network folder will not open.
And, changing the name in the address bar to, say, CPR1 does nothing.

I went to each of the four computers and reset the firewall(s):
HOME | Incoming Deny | Outgoing Allow
PUBLIC | Incoming Reject | Outgoing Allow
OFFICE | Incoming Deny | Outgoing Allow

As well, I added client min protocol = NT1 above your suggestion to add server min protocol = NT1 to smb.conf.

Now the host folders display properly in the Network folder.
No duplicates and no "(File Sharing)" after the name.
And the Windows Network folder displays but does not open.

Wait, there's more!
Having managed, with altair4's help, to access shared folders on the local network there is a new problem:
I cannot unshare folders.
I tried this:
I shared a new folder.
Found it under the network folder.
Returned to the original folder and the share emblem disappeared.
Right clicking on it gives only the option to share folder. But, it's already shared.

Since it appears you are created shared from Nemo run this command:

Code: Select all

net usershare info --long
That is the only reliable way to determine if something is shared or not if you use Nemo to share the folder.

Thanks altair4,
Terminal listed all the local shares, then at the end:
CPR4

Code: Select all

info_fn: file /var/lib/samba/usershares/folder is not a well formed usershare file.
info_fn: Error was Path is not a directory.
info_fn: file /var/lib/samba/usershares/websites is not a well formed usershare file.
info_fn: Error was Path is not a directory.
CPR1

Code: Select all

info_fn: file /var/lib/samba/usershares/2020 is not a well formed usershare file.
info_fn: Error was Path is not a directory.
[ADMIN]
path=/home/usr/FILES/ADMIN
comment=
usershare_acl=Everyone:R,CPR1\usr:F,
guest_ok=n

info_fn: file /var/lib/samba/usershares/data is not a well formed usershare file.
info_fn: Error was Path not allowed.

Looks like you have a lot of shares pointing nowhere. Go into /var/lib/samba/usershares and delete them.

Deleting the bad files worked. File manager now shows the share icon and shared folders can be unshared.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP altair4.
Perhaps the "min protocol" lines should be added to the default smb.conf file.
And, given what you said about it, GAdmin should be removed from the Mint 20 libraries.

AFTERWORD
Due to some other difficulties I did a fresh install of Mint 20.1. All I had to do is add:

Code: Select all

client min protocol = NT1
server min protocol = NT1
to the smb.conf file, which I did by opening the file as root.
I then enabled the firewall with:

Code: Select all

sudo ufw allow Samba
then

Code: Select all

sudo service smbd restart
and it works like a charm. Didn't have to reboot or reset the router.

And then again ...
Seems I spoke too soon.
For various reasons I did a third fresh installation.
Initially, the local network worked fine. CPR1 could see the other computers and the others could see CPR1.
Then I installed a few programs (mostly flatpak) such as RawTherapee, GIMP, Inkscape, etc.
AND NOW CPR1 CANNOT SEE THE REST OF THE NETWORK AND THE OTHER COMPUTERS CANNOT SEE CPR1.
When I run net usershare info --long the output is different:

Code: Select all

[transfer]
path=/mnt/FILES/transfer
comment=
usershare_acl=Everyone:R,Unix User\usr:F,
guest_ok=n
Now "path=/mnt/FILES/transfer" was, previously, "path=/home/FILES/transfer".

I tried fiddling with different settings for the Firewall. It seems the ufw override for samba doesn't work properly. The network shares from other computers only display when Home is set to OFF; or ON with incoming allowed.

I managed to get the local network working. With a couple of details to figure out (as per my previous post).
Then I installed NoMachine. It worked out of the box, as AndyMH said it would here: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=349187&p=2016197#p2016197
While viewing CPR1 from CPR4,
I rebooted CPR1, the remote computer, from my view of it in NoMachine on CPR4.
I wondered why it was taking so long to reboot. When I checked, the monitor now displays a multiple login window. I selected both my username and my name respectively. The password was declared invalid. Or the screen went blank for a second then returned to the login window.
I have never seen this multiple login screen before. I added a second user for file sharing purposes. But, before this moment had not received the multiple login after many previous reboots.

And, to add confusion, the local network still works, in that I can view CPR1 files (in Nemo) on CPR4.
However, I cannot access CPR1 with NoMachine. Nor can I login to it.
