SOLVED: WiFi stops working : Stops associating with AP

Post by triwave »

Hi,

I've been using my Mint system for a while in the last couple of weeks an issue has crept in that causes my wifi to just stop working. It works at boot for somewhere between a few and 12 hours and then stops.

Network Manager shows it's connected and good signal strength but all communications stop.

dmesg says:

Code: Select all

Now, FWIW - a simple reset of NetworkManager does not recover. Reboot does, but I also discovered removing iwlwifi and adding it back also recovers the wifi

This PC is on 24/7 and it used to stay connected (but not always used) , but last few weeks it's developed this issue. I update all the LM patches and FW upgrades so maybe something recent broke it??

Thanks for reading.

Edit 10/1/2022 : Marked SOLVED.

Seems plausible as it indicated Power Management was ON

I didn't think of that because it used to be OFF , some update somewhere must have changed that ... and NetworkManager reported signal strengths so I thought it was ON but maybe it messes up things in other ways too.

I disabled and will watch over the next couple days to see if it improves - thanks for the suggestion!

SOLVED: WiFi stops working : Stops associating with AP

Been a little over a week now that I've been on travel and the machine was reachable the whole time - seems to have stayed associated and solid.

I marked it SOLVED - thanks for the easy fix!
