After Upgrade to Linux Mint 20 Ethernet connection issues

Post by dudulima »

I'm still facing the same problem ... only WI-Fi working. Already tried the "sudo apt install r8168-dkms" followed by "sudo modprobe r8168", which didn't work for me...

Hm, actually I fail to see in your inxi output, section "Network", any hint that your Ethernet connection did not work. The status is "up".

The weird part is that the ethernet cable is connected, I've tried restarting the whole network (modem, router, etc) as indicated viewtopic.php?p=2012878#p2012878, but still, whenever I turn the wifi off, I get no network connection...

Is there another ethernet port or cable you can try? You can also reload the driver:

Code: Select all

 sudo modprobe -r r8168 && sudo modprobe r8168
Or restart network manager:

Code: Select all

 sudo service network-manager restart
Good luck

Thanks for your help, but it didn't work at all. I also tried to reinstall the package using Synaptic Package Manager, but not luck either... I'll keep looking for other solutions and if anything helps I'll post back to this thread!

Did ethernet work on the default 5.4 kernel? Try it in a live session of Mint 20.1 & see if it works there.

dudulima, I have the similar equipment and issues. It was only solved when
I installed kernal 5.11.0.38. This can be done, via your "Update Manager."

I also have the r8168 driver, but in my Manjaro 20.2 and Solus 4.3 I am using
the r8169 driver. :roll: :?
