Network drops out intermittently<Solved>

Post by lsemmens »

Intermittently on my laptop the wireless network drops out and will not reconnect until I re-boot. Occasionally all I need do is turn off wi-fi on the lappy and turn it on again and it detects and connects. Other times it tells me that my WAP is available but will not connect to it. Often I am watching netflix on my wired connection at the same time so I know it has nothing to do with my ISP. I do have other items connected wirelessly (ARLO cameras, mobile phone, tablet - all seem ok) The laptop is the only device displaying this issue. Were it hardware I'd consider that the problem would remain after a reboot, but computer reboots and wifi works immediately. I can sometimes use my computer all day with no issues often the problem seems to occur after the machine has been idle (i.e. sleep mode active) tonight , it decided to disconnect whilst I was browsing the 'net. If I could find something that consistently made it fail, I can then attempt to circumvent that issue, at this stage I'm at a loss. Yes! my system is up-to date. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

See if this helps. Open a terminal and run the following code:

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/3/2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Reboot

Try running without the phone connected to the laptop. I've noticed that there have been wifi issues with some phones connected.

What makes you think that I have a phone connected to my lappy? The ONLY time it's connected to a computer is when I'm transferring songs from my desktop (hard wired) and another lappy next to my bed for charging. NEVER to this one.
