Hello,
i just recently installed LM Cinnamon and my USB wifi adapter is not being recognized. Driver manager tells me that no drivers are currently needed and network settings do not show any wireless options. This is running on a Dell Optiplex 7010 which does not have an integrated wireless card, only Ethernet. The system does recognize USB tethering through my cell phone, but I would much rather be able to use my wireless adapter as there are no Ethernet connections available to me at this time. I am quite new to Linux and especially Mint so all help would be appreciated. I will be glad to provide any necessary system information as needed.
Thanks!

Re: USB Wireless Adapter Not Recognized CInnamon 20.1
You need to disable secure boot in Bios.
Re: USB Wireless Adapter Not Recognized CInnamon 20.1
If it still isn't working after secure boot is disabled, try this one line at a time:
Reboot
Code: Select all
sudo apt install git dkms
git clone https://github.com/cilynx/rtl88x2bu.git
sudo dkms add ./rtl88x2bu
sudo dkms install rtl88x2bu/5.6.1

Re: USB Wireless Adapter Not Recognized CInnamon 20.1
That worked beautifully. Had to unplug and replug the adapter afterwards for it to kick in but now it recognizes wifi no problem. I appreciate you taking the time to help out a greemhorn like myself who clearly has zero idea what I am doing .
Re: USB Wireless Adapter Not Recognized CInnamon 20.1
Oh, good. At least you knew enough to unplug & replug which I neglected to mention.
