I have been using Mint for some time, but still consider myself green. Recently my old hardware died and I decided to build a new system. When it was ready, I hooked up my old HDD (LM19.3) and fired it up. Everything seemed fine except that I had no network connection, so I figured that perhaps it was an issue with an old driver and decided to upgrade to LM20.1. To my surprise, when I booted the system from the LM20.1 usb, I found that I still had no network connection (I know that the ethernet router and cable are fine since I am using them right now on a very old PC that I keep around for times such as this.) The system also shows no wired connection icon in the bottom bar (next to the clock), instead it shows a wifi icon, which is very strange cause I have no wifi adapter or anything like it (i had actually never seen a wifi icon on a PC before).
I ran some commands based on other threads I had read and stored the results in a usb stick. Here they are:
