so similar to this thread

except

A) power save mode was already set to 2
B) wifi.scan random mac address = no

computer stats
ryzen 5 3400g
16gig ram
Mint Cinnamon 20 updated
realtek us bwifi adapter

(if you want the inxi info that will have to wait awhile kid is doing his school work and just dealing with the on/off issue for now)

seems i might have been wrong.... had a bad isp connection at same time :oops:
