Hello, I am relatively new to Linux and Mint as a whole. I had Mint 20.1 on a wired connection for the last 4 months, however overnight while my system was running my game server it lost wired internet connection and a repeated "Connection Failed" "Disconnected from network" message appears every 15 seconds or so. I switched over to my WiFi card which works but not as well as I would like for my game server. I bought a Startech PCI Express Gigabit network card and although it shows up in my network settings, I cannot connect to it as well. I did in fact try multiple ethernet cables and ports, and it does register the cable is plugged in to both my router and my Motherboard, and even the network card.
I upgraded Mint to 20.2, and downloaded the latest updates to no avail.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Re: Loss of wired network capabilities
Did you try restarting router/modem & machine? Also, post the results of:
Code: Select all

Re: Loss of wired network capabilities
Yes, I have restarted both devices multiple times. All my other wired and wireless connections are working fine. The network card I purchased has 2 gigabit ethernet ports, both of which register the cables connection to the router, however Mint states the cable in unplugged despite being connected. If I disconnect the ethernet cable from either end of the connection, it then gives an empty ethernet port icon.
So it registers the cable is connected, despite listing the cable as unplugged.

Re: Loss of wired network capabilities
Try this:
Code: Select all
sudo rmmod igb && sudo modprobe igb && sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service
Re: Loss of wired network capabilities
I tried that, it just keeps attempting to connect, then says connection failed.
Re: Loss of wired network capabilities
Not sure it will help, but you could try the 5.8 or 5.11 kernel. Or, test wired in a live session of Mint 20.2 & see if it works there.
