Blueman is unable to find my bluetooth devices [SOLVED]

Post by GiordanoBruno »

I'm currently using Mint 20 with up to date. I can't seem to find the right solution to this issue, I've tried all suggestions that I've come across googling this problem.

Please post an inxi -Fxxxzr report. This will give us a concise overview of your hardware and how Mint sees it.

Here is how to generate the report and post it:
Open a terminal window (Ctrl-Alt-t). Make it fullscreen to avoid unneeded linebreaks or chopped lines. Execute the command

Code: Select all

 inxi -Fxxxzr
exactly as it has been typed here.

Mark the complete text output which the command will display with your mouse.
Press the keyboard shortcut <Shift><Ctrl>C to copy the marked text into the clipboard.
Enclose the results between the code markers by selecting </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply then paste <Ctrl>V them in your reply between the code markers [code]Results [/code].

Re: Blueman is unable to find my bluetooth devices

Post by h2-1 »

Mint might want to update its inxi, -E/--bluetooth support was added specifically because it's so hard for support people to figure out what might be wrong with bluetooth, it took many iterations in inxi to get that support working because bluetooth is very difficult to actually pin down to create a useful support report, but as of 3.3.06, it's pretty decent now. Note that the version in debian next stable, 3.3.01, has only the first iteration of the bluetooth feature, it took 2 more after that one to get it stable and reliable.

Here's the rough things that can happen with bluetooth:

systemd bluetooth service: enabled/disabled, then, started/stopped
hciconfig: off/on
bt-adapter: off/on
rfkill: hardware: blocked/on; software: blocked/on
then one inxi can't handle due to the way the tool was written (it hangs endlessly if bluetooth is not enabled):
bluetoothctl: off/on

none of these know about the others, except for the core systemd service, if that is stopped or disabled, nothing else works. But hciconfig does not know about rfkill status, for example, so you can have rfkill on but hciconfig off.

Note that if mint uses the debian next stable packaged inxi it will be many years before you will be able to use inxi for support of bluetooth issues with any consistency or reliability.

@JohanW54 - Please start a thread of your own, you have different equipment. It's also impolite and against forum rules to piggyback on somebody else's thread.

No, they were just commenting about a new feature coming to the inxi reports. Please post the results for the following command:

Code: Select all

sudo dmesg | grep -i Blue

Sorry, earlier I gave the wrong .hcd file to wget. Please run the following code:

Code: Select all

cd /lib/firmware/brcm

Code: Select all

sudo wget https://github.com/winterheart/broadcom-bt-firmware/raw/master/brcm/BCM43142A0-105b-e065.hcd
Reboot and check bluetooth
