Wifi curve ball - how to set normally off?

Post by Draconis_Viridis »

Yes, I know this may be something of a shock: A noob actually read the help files before posting.
No, I am not kidding - even if it was cursory and involved usage of the search function.
Yes, I may have missed the answer even if it was staring me in the face (I guarantee it wasn't in the first 50 threads though). :(
Yes, I have tried turning it off and on again via BIOS and can do so. :D

My objective:
1. Set wifi to normally off hardware status on boot without messing with the BIOS settings.
2. Retain the option to turn wifi hardware on after boot without going back to BIOS and messing with settings again.

I.E. I want to have to turn the hardware on - not have to turn it off.
Even when I turn the wifi off using the system tray icon, it clearly does not turn the hardware off, due to the fact it can see available networks.
Granted, a receiver is not a transmitter. However, I still want the complete hardware off, not just the transmitter off.

The reason:
I don't want more RF transmission than necessary in my living area thanks. I'm an electrician, I know I picked the wrong trade for it, but I can mitigate it at home.

So, without further ado, here is the system info dump for your perusal and (hopefully) insight. Even if a solution is not available yet, any pointers in even a hopefully correct direction are appreciated.

My system:
Terminal command / readout:
