Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
It says it works on Linux kernels 2.6.18-4.4.3, you have 5.4.0-74.
Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
But those commands might still get it going as it did here:

Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
I have no experience with them, but I've seen Panda & some TP-Link's mentioned here before. Can't give you a specific one though.
Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
The most recent version I've found is up to Linux Mint 19.2 but I installed 20.2.

Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
Is your adapter a version 2 like his?
Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
i pasted the sys info for it, i can get the s/n if that helps
that is a nice adapter though, real fast.
s/n: 107UJ103519
TL-WN722N
that is a nice adapter though, real fast.

TL-WN722N
Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
It doesn't say on the box what version it is, just TL-WN722N.
Edit: It says version 3.20

Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
the adapter i am using now is a realtek chipset, it is plug and play also
but alot slower, is it that much different than OPs chipset that the driver has to be fetched from github?
Code: Select all
Device-2: Realtek RTL8188SU 802.11n WLAN Adapter type: USB driver: r8712u
bus ID: 2-1.6:5 chip ID: 0bda:8171

Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
I'm so frustrated and confused. A lot of this stuff is over my head.
Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
no need to be frustrated, there are some resourceful fellow users on the case. does your lappy have an ethernet port?
some adapters are plug and play. others have drivers fetched from driver manager, others have to be patched . I had one that had to be patched with ndiswrapper, be thankful that isn't the case here

Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
I don't think it matters since the OP can't try a different driver anyway & it's not working as plug & play.
Re: Problem setting up tl-wn722n wifi adapter
i have alot of adapters in the boneyard, while i was connected to ethernet, i would plug each one in and check to see if it was plug and play or catered in the driver manager, the plug and play ones i kept. i know the netgear n-150 is a good one, but now that i see that different adapters vary chipsets by version number, i can't recommend any.
it looks like the atheros chipsets are the fastest and best developed
a nifty google search rebounded this:
