[SOLVED] Mate 20 USB WiFi Card Listed Does Not Connect

Post by ecoalex »

The USB card is recognised, even shows 4 bars strength in the listing , yet an X over the WiFi icon in the panel, and a disconnect message appears. At first the router is listed in dark font, after the failure to connect, the font is gray, but there are 4 bars next to it, indicating it is partially initiated.
My Mate 20 install has had good WiFi on a USB WiFi card. Today I had problems with the connection after 2 months of no problems. I have an identical computer/OS and WiFi card also. It has no problems. I am using Hughes Gen5 ISP the modem has it's own router.
Why would I have problems with one, not the other? Why would it have no problems when the computers are swapped both are no more than 25 ft from the router? When I swap the computers after the dysfunctional one will not connect, then connects , it will again connect to the network. I also have swapped the USB Cards with no change.

Any help Appreciated.

It might help us to see more details of the problem machine. Post the results of:

Code: Select all

 inxi -Fxxxrz && rfkill list && iwconfig && lsusb && mokutil --sb-state

For now, I am connecting with 4 bars, no problem. Thanks for your reply, I will keep this posting to show what terminal says if I encounter this again. I am suspect it maybe an isp problem , as the modem has a built in router. Hughes may have tweaked the router remotely. Time will tell. Thanks Again for the reply ;)

I had the problem again, I have to remove then insert the wifi card to have a connection. I tried another computer,the same set-up, it had a connection. I seem to have this upon morning boot-up sometimes .I noticed 3 bars reception, after a few minutes, I had 4 bars. Thanks
I entered the suggested command and got this-

inxi -Fxxxrz && rfkill list && iwconfig && lsusb && mokutil --sb-state

alex@alex-OptiPlex-790:~$ inxi -Fxxxrz && rfkill list && iwconfig && lsusb && mokutil --sb-state
