Cannot connect to my WiFi network

Post by AndroGR »

I have a very annoying issue with Mint.Whenever i try to connect through WiFi, it starts prompting me again and again for the password, even if i type it correctly. it won't connect, just do that every few seconds. I don't know what's wrong. I have used the same card with Mint in the exact same system before, however after i came back to Mint, it refused to work. Here is everything you might need:

Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
Network Card: TP-Link Archer T3U (Chipset: Realtek 8822BU)
Driver: Manually added and compiled by https://github.com/cilynx/rtl88x2bu , using DKMS, RSync, BC, GCC, Make etc.
Any support is appreciated :)

Can you run
inxi -Fxxxzr
in a terminal window and than copy and paste the results in your next post. This will give us a better idea as to what you have.

Let's see what this shows:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxrz && rfkill list && iwconfig && mokutil --sb-state

I don't notice an obvious problem. Have you tried restarting the router, modem & machine?

Obviously, considering that by modem you mean the wifi card.

I mean shut down the router/modem & restart. If that doesn't help, try:

Code: Select all

 sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service

When you say 'your own' do you mean a network which you initiate via your own hardware or a network from another provider?

I did these as well. Nothing seems to work anymore. I'll try some hard-way solutions I haven't used in years, but if that continues, I'll just send the card for service.

I mean the network I connect my other devices and I pay for. I can connect to open wifi networks, but that's as far as I've made it. I've restarted the router, it clearly isn't the issue.

You could try updating your kernel to 5.4.0-89. Even if it doesn't help this issue, the 5.4.0-74 you have now is quite old. If the -89 is no help, you could even try the 5.11 kernel on that newer machine.

I have done that, even manually compiled from scratch Linux 5.14. However, i found out that the issue is somewhere else. Along with Mint, i also have Debian 11. After disabling and stopping NetworkManager-wait-online, and did some other changes, it works (It will still need disconnecting, rebooting etc to work, but it does). Unfortunately, i did all that on Gnome, so i don't know if it will work on Cinammon. Anyways, i will try some other stuff for now, hoping to find the solution.

Do you dual boot with Windows?

Re: Cannot connect to my WiFi network

No, i actually can't (And don't want to) install Windows on my machine. However i did fix the issue (Atleast on Debian, i will reinstall Mint now). Seems like i had to modify the driver and reinstall it. The solution i found (For any future viewers) was that:

0. Uninstall the wifi drivers
1. Disable WiFi (And the adapter as well)
2. Shut down the computer and unplug the wifi card.
3. Reset the router to its first state (Complete reset, not just a reboot)
4. Reboot the machine without the wifi card plugged.
5. Plug the wifi card and power up the machine
6. sudo modprobe -r 88x2bu (For some reason it worked)
7. Reinstall the drivers

I don't know why did it work, but it did. Now the machine is working fine.
Again, thx for ur help :)
