[Solved] Trying to get an Asus usb ac53-nano wireless adapter to work

Post by Cyperus »

I'm currently having issues with my USB adapter, an ASUS USB-AC53 Nano. There's no internet connection without a having to use my phone as a tether. There's is no option in the network settings to swap from my tethered network to my adaptor.

In and attempt to install the proper driver, I ran:

Code: Select all

cd Desktop
git clone https://github.com/jeremyb31/rtl8822bu.git
cd rtl8822bu
make clean
make
sudo make install
Then rebooted, however nothing changed

Currently I'm running:

Code: Select all

    Operating System: Linux Mint 20.2
    Kernel: Linux 5.4.0-91-generic
    Architecture: x86-64
Running inxi -Fxxxrz Outputs:

With secure boot disabled in Bios, try one line at a time:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install git dkms
git clone https://github.com/cilynx/rtl88x2bu.git
sudo dkms add ./rtl88x2bu
sudo dkms install rtl88x2bu/5.8.7.1
Reboot

Actually nevermind, apparently it fixed itself?

Which is odd, i dont think i really did anything besides reseting the bios due to another issue

Ok, not likely a driver issue then if it's working. Let us know if it acts up again.

Secure boot is in Bios & you should disable it anyway since it can cause wifi issues.

I think Sleeper12 was wide awake on this one. I recently installed Mint 21 and I followed his command line instructions and restarted my computer and I had wifi. I didn't even have to run the driver tool. Thanks Sleeper. You can go back to sleep now you've earned it. lol

For anyone wondering wifi specs are below.
