Ethernet stopped working again

Post by particlefeever »

After months struggling with bad wifi, I decide to wire my network in this room. There is a switch to my PS3 and this Macmini with Mint 20. But the ethernet didn't work at the time. After a large update, including Kernel, the ethernet came back! :D
But today it's gone again... :cry:

Output of inxi -Nn

Code: Select all

Network:
  Device-1: Marvell 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet driver: sky2
  IF: enp1s0 state: down mac: 00:16:cb:ae:89:8d
  Device-2: Qualcomm Atheros AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter
  driver: ath5k
  IF: wls1 state: up mac: 00:1c:b3:b2:ce:3b
  IF-ID-1: docker0 state: down mac: 02:42:ac:1e:b9:98
Will show my info but I think there is something related to the device configuration, maybe the OS is changing something it should not. Also, there is always something strange in these infos, for instance, my GPU is GMA950, not 945, who knows if the ethernet is right or wrong...

You can try:

Code: Select all

 sudo modprobe -r sky2 && sudo modprobe sky2 && sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service

Yeah! Is working again! Thanks!

Can you please explain the issue and what those modprobe commands are doing?

Far as I know, it reloaded the driver & restarted Network Manager. Glad it got you up & running again. :D
