Wireless not showing -- Solved

Post by bnther50 »

Got a new Asus today. Wireless is not showing as an option.

Here's everything I could think of.

Any thoughts?

Install the 5.13 kernel in Update Manager, View, Linux Kernels & reboot.

If that doesn't work, you might need an even higher kernel: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... html#ID8.1

Thanks for the response.

I tried doing that, but got this weird message:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I also tried it sudo style and got basically the same response.

Any thoughts?

Yep ... that did it.

I know the whole sudo dpkg thing looked pretty straight forward, but can you tell me what was happening?

Either way, I have wifi now and I REALLY appreciate it.

Thank you : )

Just a guess, maybe you made a typo in that command? The spaces are important.

What do you mean maybe...LOL

The dpkg configure, what does that do?
Why was it set on E:

It's kind of odd, I think this is the 4th Linux install for me (all 19) but I've never run into this before.

Why wouldn't the last install version have the latest kernal driver?

I think I have more questions now than I did when I posted this afternoon.

At any rate, is there a way to mark this as 'answered'?

Thanks again

As for your questions, the dpkg configure command corrects whatever caused the initial error. I'm no expert, so that's the best I can explain it.

Each version of Mint comes with a default kernel. Kernel updates happen often, so the default one may or may not be the latest one or the best one for your needs.
