UFW (Public) and ProtonVPN

Post by psicop »

I'm trying to setup this VPN service with Public enabled on UFW. Direct connection via laptop on public wifi.

I'm using Mint 20.2

Could anyone provide me with the fw's specific rules to allow the VPN connection to get through as currently it isn't allowing it. It says connection "timed out."

Thanks in advance.

Let me get back to you tomorrow as I won't be using the laptop device until then. Will post the logs here.

Thanks.

Hello,

This is the log

My fw PUBLIC profile is set to INCOMING reject, OUTGOING allow.

Currently I am not using a router to access the public wifi network. I am still trying to figure this one out first.

Note: I disabled the FW and am still unable to connect ProtonVPN so it is not a fw-related issue at all. It's probably the VPN service which doesn't work as well as it does with Windows (it worked flawlessly when I was a Win user several months ago).

Cheers.

all of those services just use openVPN or wireguard; both options are rock solid under Linux.

Probably more you missed a step (e.g. editing the config file to include your user/password, or importing the edited config file into network manager)

+1 @djph

OpenVPN is very simple to set up as you can have a server up and running in no time. It even makes a client-config file you can simply import in Linux Mint (XFCE). All I had to do was port forward the internet traffic to the VPN server (on home router) and I was in...
