I have an old Dell laptop that will not connect to my WPA PS2 router. I am forced to use Ethernet cable which works ok. It seems to not recognise my password which I know is correct. It is however seeing my SSID ok. Here are the details from the terminal.

I'm not familiar enough with LMDE 4 to help, but those details might be useful to someone else.

Hello pompeyrodney,
I can imagine because of your very old hardware, that the problem hast to do with the security encryption. Your wifi card only supports WEP standard, but the most modern routers are set to WPA2. Can you open your router configuration and have a look. If it's WPA2, see if there is a mixed mode for WEP, maybe also a mixed mode with WPA.

Thank you for responding. I thought the same so looked at my router, I seem to only have the options of WPA2-PSK or WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. Would it be worth trying the second option perhaps?

Yes, just try the option WPA/WPA2. There are different statements about WEP and WPA for your card in the internet.

I have changed the encryption option to WPA but still cannot connect, I think I shall try my router with encryption disabled to see if I can then connect, that way I would then know it was the card that lacked the capability to work with WPA, will report back. Is there a command that would show me the encryption standards supported please?

I have now tried removing the SSID security thus not requiring encryption, but I am still not able to log in. As this is the wrong forum section for LMDE, I shall head over to networking and repost my findings.
