Connection drops whenever I download something

Post by borek49 »

Hi,
I am currently running latest live version of Linux Mint on my laptop Acer Swift 3 (AMD version) from the USB flash drive. For regular tasks, such as browsing, my wi-fi connection works just fine, however when I try to download something, either through browser or terminal (by using commands such as: apt update, install, git copy, etc.) my connection drops. There is no warning message that I was disconnected, however all my downloads get stuck and internet connection basically stops working for everything. I've tried some recommended solutions for this problem, however non of them worked for me. Here is my iwconfig log:

lo no wireless extensions.
wlp1s0 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:"UPC-name"

If somebody could help me with the problem I'd be very grateful.

Is it something at your ISP end or router? Do other devices like laptops or phones work well?
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help.

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- Make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxpmrz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter, and don't omit the space after inxi!)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Do the same with the following three commands:

Code: Select all

rfkill list all

Code: Select all

lsusb

Code: Select all

lspci

All my other Windows and Android devices work well. I'd say that there is nothing wrong with my router

A live session is hard to troubleshoot, because everything you install in it, is lost upon reboot. So I recommend to do a hard disk installation, update everything and then try the latest 5.14.x kernel:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-oem-20.04d
Reboot after installing it. Then test.
