Can't pair Logitech MX Master 2S Bluetooth Mouse on Linux Mint 20.3 (Una)

Post by asimo1138 »

Hello,

I have a Logitech MX Master 2S bluetooth mouse. I have been using it for ~2 years with the USB "unifying receiver" that came with it until the receiver croaked about a month ago. Fortunately the mouse can be used by pairing it via bluetooth, so I did that and it has been working great with Linux Mint 20.3 (Una).

A few weeks ago, I did a periodic "apt update && apt upgrade" and now my mouse won't connect via bluetooth (unfortunately I did not note what was updated at the time). I attempted removing it as a trusted device and re-pairing, but it does not appear to be discoverable either, even when put into pairing mode (for this mouse, you select the "easy-switch" device number you want to pair, then press & hold the device switching button down until the number starts flashing rapidly).

I've tried the following:
  • Removing blueberry and installing blueman; same results.
  • Using bluetoothctl to scan and connect to the device. Unfortunately the mouse is still never discovered, but other bluetooth devices like my speakers & keyboard are discovered and connectable.
  • As a data-point, my system has one drive with Mint on it and another drive with Windows 11. When I boot into Windows 11, I am able to pair and connect the mouse over bluetooth without issue.

Hi All !

thanks for posting this OP - I'm getting the same result here on Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon 5.2.7 kernel 5.4.0-124-generic

Bluetooth UI widget simply doesn't see anything in the list, despite mouse blinking indicating that it is in pairing mode

didn't have time to dig too much into bluetoothctl yet, have you been able to resolve this?

OK this was simple in my case - didn't realize that Update manager does not upgrade kernel at the same time

after specifically updating the kernel to latest one it worked OK !

Code: Select all

$ uname -a
Linux HP-x360-1040-G6 5.15.0-46-generic #49~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 4 19:15:44 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
