Google Drive

Post by Linko »

Hi all. Any idea why Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon has stopped allowing Google Drive integration?

If I go to Settings > Online Accounts and choose Google, I get a blank modal:
GoogleAccount.png
Is this to do with Google's stricter security lockdown? Or is this me?

I have just added my Google Account to Mint 20.3 Cinnamon without any issues.
So, yes, it is you... :D

No, I have no idea where it is going wrong. I did nothing special to get it to work.

Maybe try creating a new user for yourself & see if it will work on that.
At least then you would know that it is something in your profile, or not.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. That window basically opens a web view that goes to the Google login page. It should "just work" as it does for me and most people on cinnamon.

I don't think there are any security settings on Google's or your end that should be causing this, not firewall or anything like that.

It could be something to do with webkit and I also read that it could be an issue with mesa drivers.
Can you try running this in terminal and see if it works for you then?

Code: Select all

WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 cinnamon-settings online-accounts
That command doesn't permanently change any of your settings. Just runs the program with that flag set.

Thanks, I tried that and it allowed me to open the google option and see the google login input within that modal (rather than it being blank) for about a second. It then disappeared and left me with the blank box again and displayed an error in the terminal:

Code: Select all

(WebKitWebProcess:1560117): Gdk-ERROR **: 10:57:25.217: The program 'WebKitWebProcess' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 231 error_code 2 request_code 151 (GLX) minor_code 34)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
   variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Needless to say, I have no idea what this means!

The error may not be too relevant and more to do with the command I gave you, but leave it posted here in case it is relevant.

I'm out of ideas, can you post the usual info people ask for in response to people asking for help and then hopefully someone else comes along with better knowledge.

Paste results of this here.

I still think it has something to do with webkit rendering.

I've noticed your "OpenGL: renderer" entry is showing as N/A
Whereas mine is:
OpenGL: renderer: NVIDIA TITAN Xp COLLECTORS EDITION/PCIe/SSE2
v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 510.73.05 direct render: Yes

So perhaps it's related to that, a graphic driver issue. Which would explain why it works for me and RIH but not you.

I did have a lot of problems getting the graphics card working on this machine with Mint. I have had to do a lot of messing about to get this to work by installing nouveau for my NVIDIA Card. Then i could add NVIDIA X Server Settings to the Startup Applications and disable Xrandr.

Right or wrong - it worked! Although it does take a minute for the desktop to render after rebooting the machine and logging in!!

I'm no expert with hardware and drivers so this is probably the wrong way of doing things. The driver manager didn't install anything of any use.

This, I'm guessing, is probably the issue seen in the terminal and could very well be the knock-on effect that is breaking Online Accounts > Google Drive setup!?

What d'ya reckon?

Ensure that your system is up to date including the package "ubuntu-drivers-common" and then run the Driver Manager application. What options do you get in there?

It's all up-to-date and the newest version of ubuntu-common-drivers is installed.

Driver manager shows these options:

Okay, so I've updated the driver to the recommended - still takes ages for the desktop to render on startup, but it did allow me to access google drive.

Thanks for your help!

How long is ages?

When I log in I get a black screen for 4 seconds or so as a guess without timing it.

It might be worth creating a new thread on the forum explaining your graphics issues and see if someone with knowledge on that subject can help. No harm in trying.

Привіт. Спробуй цю команду, во назавжди мені допомагала, деколи навіть в Debian 11..! Це не вирішить проблему остаточно але ти зможеш підключитись до свого Googlt Drive..! :)

Code: Select all

XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME gnome-control-center
