wifi 6 adapter reliability

Post by KD5RKO »

I'm using an older HP Probook 440 G1 laptop with a mini PCI adapter for wifi. SInce I upgraded my home network to wifi 6, I decided to upgrade my wifi card to one that will handle 6. I'm on my second card now. The first one died after a week of normal use. My second one works great when it's working. It then loses connection and I have to reset the iwlwifi module using [code} sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi && sudo modprobe iwlwifi [/code] or turning wifi off and then back on again. Sometimes I have to reboot completely.

The card I have currently is this one - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B9S961MJ
and it shows up as
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX210/AX211/AX411 160MHz (rev 1a)

Do any of you have any experience with better cards that work reliably and do wifi 6? Or should just give up and go back the the lower speed card that is rock solid?

I did make sure that power management on the device is turned off if that makes any difference.

Re: wifi 6 adapter reliability

Here are the results of my system info using inxi -Fxzd
For now I decided to go back to my previous Intel Corporation Wireless 3160 (rev 83) adapter because even if it's slower - it is at least stable.
I would really like to find a wiifi 6 solution that works so I can fully utilize my network speed.
