Wifi stopped working suddenly

Post by dirk_1968 »

Hi,

I am a newbie, installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3 on an old laptop. Installation works fine, I take the laptop with me on vacation.
Last week, I was on a Signal-call with family, and was watching a YouTubevideo at the same time. Suddenly the WiFi blew out. Was totally gone.

When I click on Networking, it says WiFi not available. Strange thing is: with a networkcable I still have Internet on the laptop.

Anyone any idea on how to repair the WiFi?

Laptop is an old Toshiba, Satellite C850 series.

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- Make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxpmrz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter, and don't omit the space after inxi!)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Do the same with the following four commands:

Code: Select all

rfkill list all

Code: Select all

iwconfig

Code: Select all

lsusb

Code: Select all

lspci

The wifi is hard blocked. Is there a switch on front or side or a keyboard key to turn it back on?

My thoughts exactly. Look for a very small physical switch.

Hallo sleeper12 and pjotr,

This is pic of my keyboard. I see a key, but that looks like a bluetoothkey.
No switches visible on the laptop.

Dear Sleeper12 and Pjotr,

I tried the 'bluetooth' key. It worked! WiFi is back!

Thanks! Problem solved!

Ok, good. :wink: You should also turn power management off since it can cause wifi problems:

Code: Select all

 sudo sed -i 's/3/2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Reboot
