I have been away from Linux since a previous computer died on me quite a while back. I now have a new HP laptop (for very big laps ) and just installed LinuxMint 21 (vanessa) today. Hence, I feel like a newbie at LinuxMint. Also, I tried searching on the above phrases. Too many results and what I did look at does not resemble my gluteal pain.
When I booted from the USB it was able to locate my routers (as well as my neighbor's router) and I was able to connect to the appropriate wifi setting and browse. After this installation I had to manually connect to that router again, once; in a few subsequent reboots I had no problem either. Suddenly, however, after a recent reboot, there is no wifi connection. When I click on the tiny network icon in the panel I see 3 options:
- Wired Cable unplugged
- Network Settings
- Network Connections
(As an aside, how do I get the bullet points to work between the list= and /list tags? I kludged the bullet list you see above.)
When I click on Network Settings I get a window (which I cannot paste here on another PC) that displays:
- Wired (with the Unplugged reminder)
- Network Proxy (which is pretty useless w/o a network connection)
For Network Connections I get
- Ethernet / Wired connection. And we know that's a flop.
- Wi-Fi / <name of my router> Now here, if I double-click, I see my router information, including my access password.
But in all that, there seems to be no way for me to actually connect to it. Nor do the other routers (like my FIOS and neighbor's) show up in any menu.
I rebooted Windows just to be sure and it connects just fine that way. So I know there's no new hardware issue on my brand new laptop.
So right now I am trapped in a completely local environment. I have a spare ethernet cable but that won't solve the problem, even if it connects me.
I'd love to get some solutions here.
Thanks much.
