no wifi on a samsung

Post by Smokeyone »

Hello
I have been searching linux/mint/ubuntu forums for a solution to a no wi fi problem but I may have found the answer with a Firmware amendment but I do not understand how it works.
Delete the original `board-2.bin` and copy the `eeprom_ar6320_3p0_TX8_clpc.bin` file to `lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/board.bin`
A zip file is available on another forum for the new eeprom if needed..

Many thanks

Install the 5.3 kernel in Update Manager, View, Linux kernels, then reboot.

Check mokutil --sb-state as Secure Boot needs to be disabled for this to work
Then in terminal do

Code: Select all

sudo apt install dkms git
git clone https://github.com/jeremyb31/ath-5.3.git
sudo dkms add ./ath-5.3
sudo dkms install ath-5.3/1
Reboot

Thank you very much for the help.
Your Terminal commands and update found my network - I entered my router password and it connected but for some reason I cannot log in to the internet - Firefox message says try again later
. Also Network settings only shows my router but I am sure there are other signals in my area which do not appear.

Re: no wifi on a samsung

Post by Smokeyone »

The Samsung has now connected to the internet via my router and the wifi / Firefox. Very many thanks for all the help.
However it is still unable to find any other networks and I am sure there are a few in the vicinity.
My Lenova laptop on Mint just finds and lists the networks in the area. Is there a setting I should set maybe!

Update
I realise this does not make any sense but my Samsung has now found other wifi networks but it only found one network per re-boot if you see what I mean. So six reboots later it has found all six networks in my area - all very odd -
