help getting WUSB54GC to work

Post by friedtofu » Thu Feb 08, 2007 12:52 am

well, a linksys usb WUSB54GC doesnt seem to work...

i've tried installing the driver in NDiSwrapper (or mintWifi) doesnt seem to work..

i've tried guides on

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD ... ysWUSB54GC

and

http://wwwu.uni-klu.ac.at/agebhard/WUSB54GC/

it doesnt seem to work...

When i mean, not working, i mean the computer detects the usb but isnt able to connect to the internet at ALL....

with iwconfig i get

rausb0 RT73 WLAN
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:113
Rx invalid nwid:0 invalid crypt:0 invalid misc:0

rausb0 is my linksys usb adapter...

i'm currently using a wired connection, i hope someone can help me figure out what the hell i'm doing wrong.... -.- ...

ah well, i'mma try disconnecting the wired connection and see if it'll use wifi.... ... (which i did 3-4 times already.. but lets do it again!)

i believe i'll be returning this to the store and buy one that runs "out of the box" for linux...

also, for some reason, this usb thing doesnt even run in windows?... Linksys uses a strange passcode whatever and instead of inputting the ASCII WEP 128-bit key i have to put it in Hex... anyone know how to convert ASCII to Hex? (for this i tried to connect to two different routers, a 2wire and a D-link, both dont work...)

anyhow... thanks in advance!.... ....

anyways, with a reboot i was able to use the usb device to LOOK for wireless access points...

it TRIES to connect, but fails.... i dont know why.. -.-

starting up..

rausb0 RT73 WLAN ESSID:""
Mode:Auto Channel=6 Bit Rate=54 Mb/s
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Link Quality=91/100 Signal level:-86 dBm Noise level:-115 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

then

rausb0 RT73 WLAN ESSID:"2wire-att"
Mode:Managed Channel=6 Access Point: 00:18:3F:F4:41:41
Bit Rate=54 Mb/s
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Link Quality=92/100 Signal level:-46 dBm Noise level:-79 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

while doing this it says "finding WEP network key" or something of that sort... although i put it in 64/128 bit KEY ASCII...

then, it reverts back to wired connection.. and i'm at square one... heh

Well good news: your hardware is recognized. Try changing your access point settings to see if it works without encryption and with DHCP activated on the router.
