if you dont have wpa then you dont need to worry about it, its not my config anyway, its just the picture from the wifi-radar homepage :)

ok ignore the manual network configuration settings for now
leave mode and channel on auto, change security to wep, and put your 128 bit wep key into the key box

out of curiosity did iwconfig give you anything?

i do have the braodcom driver stuff I guess if we need too it is in some type of of compressed stage on my desktop as per the linixmint mintwifi instrcutions that I was trying to work my way through when we hooked up.

p.s. I realize that you have gone beyond the call of duty with me...and we have not gotten this fixed yet----but any clues as to why no sound? I tried all of the various sound audio output chices and not one works.

thank you

just a thought---I do not see any place in these setups of info that require a password..... besides the hex code...I believe that my wife's dell laptop I had the code plus a password--- and that was a nightmare to setup and also one time I tried to find the hex code took me 2 hours of random trial before it connected again and I left it from then on...

ok, if you try
sudo ifup eth0
does it give you anything?
if it says already configured try running
sudo ifdown eth0
followed by sudo ifup eth0

im not really sure about the password thing, but one step at a time :)

the iwconfig command seems to show a working wireless so its either working but not being used or working but not receiving coz of the passwoord thing.

make sure to bring it up again with
sudo ifup eth0

also try installing network-manager-gnome,
then run nm-applet, should bring up an icon in the systray
click on the icon and select
"Connect to other wireless network"
should bring up this

thin i think you want wpa-enterprise, but im not sure, im kinda running outta ideas :(
